The home of Charles Trenet

Around town, in the footsteps of Charles Trenet and a visit to his birthplace

« Y'a d'la joie » …"There's happiness here" in the lyrics of one of Trenet's best loved songs. And there is lots more besides in the streets of Narbonne. This is a walk around Trenet's childhood, which contributed so much to the charm of the lyrics which made him famous - "Narbonne mon amie" and "Que veux-tu que je te dise ?" among many others.

Along the walk you'll come across all the souvenirs of Narbonne which formed the poet and formed the background to his youth. The visit ends in the green shuttered house that saw Trenet come into the world in 1913.

"Cette vieille baraque" (this old house), source of inspiration, in "Douce France" and of course "La Mer"  -  even English speakers not aware of who Charles Trenet is will be amazed just how many of his songs they recognise!
