Regional Natural Park

The Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional natural park

Created in 2003, the Regional Natural Park of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée extends over 80 000 hectares along the coastline of the Aude.

Narbonne is the port town of the  Regional Natural Park and the majority of the town's territory is inside the park.

Biodiversity

This is a diversified area, at once unique and fragile. It is one of the rare natural conservation sites bordering the Mediterranean with such a large surface area. There are no fewer than 7 environment zones: the lagoon system, the littoral, the massif of la Clape, les Corbières de Fontfroide, the Piémont (transition between the Corbières and the étangs), the maritime Corbières ,and the plateau of Leucate.

2000 species of plants (an amazing 43% of the total in France as a whole) are sheltered here, of which 6 species of international interest, along with 300 species of bird (60% of the number of species counted in Europe).

27 associated communities

Along with its neighbouring towns and villages, Narbonne has within its limits 5 of the 7 typical environments of the park!

A real natural treasure to be visited on foot, by bike or on horseback...
