Prehistoric times

The Narbonne region, the hills of the Minervois and the foothills of the Corbières via the Massif de la Clape, is particularly rich in caves and other prehistoric sites. A quite extraordinary amount of evidence of Palaeolithic and Bronze Age settlements have been left to us.

Flint tools, utilitarian objects, objects fashioned from animal bones, ivory, metal, and ceramics are displayed in a beautiful room dedicated to prehistory at the archaeological museum, the former refectory and wine cellar of the archbishops. The renovation of part of the grotte de l’Aldène caves, with displays recreating the major steps in the evolution of man during this period, will be enjoyed by old and young alike.

Narrated guides can be requested in order to visit and bring the collections to life.
